The Mercury Rising 2 Project will create a second-floor extension to the Mercury Theatre in Colchester to provide additional rehearsal and multi-use space.
This space will also host activities as part of a programme offering business advice and mentoring to local creative start-up businesses and freelancers and will also provide a new ‘home’ for Stage Text, a D/deaf led charity providing access to the arts for D/deaf and hard of hearing people.
Additionally, the project will allow for the acquisition of LED theatrical lighting to further reduce the theatre’s carbon footprint and digital recording equipment to enable the offer of live streaming and recording of performances, events and conferences.

The Getting Building Fund focuses on projects that can progress quickly and that will stimulate and better integrate economies in some of the most economically impacted and COVID-affected parts of the South East.
£85m of Getting Building Fund investment has been secured, enabling delivery of 45 projects across East Sussex, Essex, Kent, Medway, Southend and Thurrock.
