Last week we welcomed Lily into the South East LEP team for her year 10 work experience placement from Boswells School. Given our role in skills and talent development in the South East it was great to have Lily in the team working with us.
We worked with Lily introducing her to the diverse workload of the LEP. Amy worked with colleagues to pull together a varied work programme:
- attending a Tri-LEP, South2East, Energy Strategy meeting with Coast2Capital,Enterprise M3 and Siemens colleagues
- supporting the Capital Programme Manager collating data on our Local Growth Funding
- joining our MD in attending a meeting with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
- supporting our Communications Manager by collating and uploading content to our new SELEP website
- meeting with local authority and business partners discussing the promotion of opportunities in the energy sector
As well as Lily’s own work and involvement in meetings with colleagues Lily sat with colleagues to better understand the scope of their work.
- Adam, Managing Director, explained the role of LEPs nationally, the remit, operational model and delivery of the South East LEP
- Zoe and Paul, communications, talked through outline strategy for marketing and communications discussing the importance of marketing through multiple channels to reach and engage with our stakeholders and partners
- Rhiannon, Capital Programme Manager, explained our large scale government investment in infrastructure development across the South East LEP area, the largest project portfolio of any LEP in the UK, and the critical role of project evaluation and monitoring as we deliver value to government
- Amy, Programme Manager, played a significant role in putting together and supervising Lily’s week, guiding Lily through her various tasks and being on-hand to give Lily the best possible experience we can
It has been a great week working with Lily, seeing first-hand the importance of working in partnership with our local schools and encouraging the work force of tomorrow to take an interest in the skills that will support them in their education choices and career development .
“I’ve really enjoyed working with the SELEP team. The experience has been very useful and has given me a lots of experience of working.”
Lily Martin, Year 10 student, Boswells School
“It was great to have Lily join us for a and a privilege to play a small part in helping build Lily’s future. As a LEP we are passionate about skills and talent on our patch. We really enjoyed working so closely with a student towards shaping their future, even if it was just in a tiny way. She worked hard and gave a fresh perspective on the way we work. All the best to you Lily!”
Adam Bryan, Managing Director, South East LEP
Most importantly – thank you Lily and good luck with all your future endeavours!
